AWARD Participation in the B4P National Sharing Event

AWARD Participated in the national sharing event “Empowering Communities through Business for Peace” potentials of business actors in the peace-building in Hotel Lakeshore, Gulshan-2, Dhaka on 29th March 2018. The event organized by Saferworld, UK. Supported by The Swiss Agency for Development & Cooperation- SDC.

The B4P project aims to harness the rule of domestic business actors in building peace in 3 Districts across the country- Sylhet, Sunamgonj & Rajshahi by facilitating partnerships between Local Govt., Business Actors & Civil Society.

A finding report lays out the key findings from a series of Focal Group Discussion- FGD & Key Informant Interviews- KII conducted in the 3 Districts.

The analysis identified Five broad and overlapping factors that communities felt were driving conflict & insecurity are political polarization, Criminalisation of Politics, Exploitation of Religious or Ethnic Identities for Political gain, Erosion of Traditional norms & Structures and Unethical & Exploitative Business Practices.

Most participants felt that business actors have an important role to play in promoting peace & agreed that they could only the effective peace actors if they work as part of a much broader collaboration of stakeholders.

Four areas were identified in which business actors could contribute to peace- “employment Creation & Promoting Economic Opportunities, Raising Awareness & leveraging influence, Promoting Collaboration between Groups & Modeling Ethical Behaviour.
